Prelude: Gather Us In John Behnke

The Entrance Rite

Hymn 377: “All people that on earth do dwell”

Choir & People

1    All people that on earth do dwell,
sing to the Lord with cheerful voice:
him serve with fear, his praise forth tell,
come ye before him and rejoice.

Choir & People

2    The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;
without our aid he did us make:
we are his folk, he doth us feed,
and for his sheep he doth us take.

Choir only

3    O enter then his gates with praise,                                          4          For why? the Lord our God is good,
approach with joy his courts unto;                                                      his mercy is forever sure;
praise, laud, and bless his Name always,                                           his truth at all times firmly stood,
for it is seemly so to do.                                                                        and shall from age to age endure.

Choir & People

5    To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
the God whom heaven and earth adore,
from men and from the angel host
be praise and glory evermore.

Opening Acclamation

Bishop                    Alleluia. Christ is risen.
People                     The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia.
Bishop                    There is one Body and one Spirit;
People                     There is one hope in God’s call to us;
Bishop                    One Lord, one Faith, one Baptism;
People                     One God and Father of all.

The Collect for Purity

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Gloria in excelsis             Missa Paschalis, W. Edward McCall

The Collect of the Day

Bishop    The Lord be with you.
People     And also with you.
Bishop     Let us pray.

Almighty and everlasting God, who in the Paschal mystery established the new covenant of reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ’s Body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy of the Word

First Lesson: Acts 4:32-35

Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

Reader     The Word of the Lord.
People     Thanks be to God.

Psalm 133

1 Oh, how good and pleasant it is, *
when brethren live together in unity!

2 It is like fine oil upon the head *
that runs down upon the beard,

3 Upon the beard of Aaron, *
and runs down upon the collar of his robe.

4 It is like the dew of Hermon *
that falls upon the hills of Zion.

5 For there the Lord has ordained the blessing: *
life for evermore.

Second Lesson: 1 John 1:1-2:2

We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it, and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us—we declare to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

Reader     The Word of the Lord.
People     Thanks be to God.

Hymn 209: “We walk by faith, and not by sight”

1. We walk by faith, and not by sight;
no gracious words we hear
from him who spoke as none e’er spoke;
but we believe him near.

2. We may not touch his hands and side,
nor follow where he trod;
but in his promise we rejoice,
and cry, “My Lord and God!”

3. Help then, O Lord, our unbelief;
and may our faith abound,
to call on you when you are near,
and seek where you are found:

4. that, when our life of faith is done,
in realms of clearer light
we may behold you as you are,
with full and endless sight.

Alleluia

The cantor sings the Alleluias, then all repeat them.

The Gospel: John 20:19-31

Deacon      The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to John.
People     Glory to you, Lord Christ.

When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”

A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

Deacon   The Gospel of the Lord.
People     Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Thanksgiving over the Water

The Bishop blesses the water, first saying
The Lord be with you.

People                                 And also with you.
Bishop                                Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People                                 It is right to give him thanks and praise.

Bishop

We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life.

We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

At the following words, the Bishop touches the water

Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit; that those who here are cleansed from sin and born again may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior.

To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

The Baptism

Bishop        Daphne, I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Then the Bishop places a hand on the person’s head, marking on the forehead the sign of the cross using Chrism and saying

Bishop        Daphne, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ’s own for ever. Amen.

A baptismal candle, lit from the Paschal Candle, is then presented.

Bishop        Receive the light of Christ, a sign of the new life enkindled within you. Amen.

When this action has been completed, the Bishop prays over the newly baptized, saying
Let us pray.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon this your servant the forgiveness of sin, and have raised her to the new life of grace. Sustain her, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give her an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen.

Bishop           Let us welcome the newly baptized.
People            We receive you into the household of God. Confess the faith of Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection,
and share with us in his eternal priesthood.

As the procession returns to the chancel, the people are sprinkled with Baptismal water, and the following hymn is sung.

There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism                                                                  Jacques Berthier

The Rites of Confirmation and Reception

The Bishop says to the congregation
Let us now pray for these persons who have renewed their commitment to Christ.

Silence is kept.

Then the Bishop says

Almighty God, we thank you that by the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ you have overcome sin and brought us to yourself, and that by the sealing of your Holy Spirit you have bound us to your service. Renew in these your servants the covenant you have made with them at their Baptism. Send them forth in the power of that Spirit to perform the service you set before them; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Bishop lays hands upon each of the candidates and says the following prayers.

For Confirmation
Strengthen, O Lord, your servant N. with your Holy Spirit; empower him for your service; and sustain him all the days of his life. Amen.

For Reception
N.
, we recognize you as a member of the one holy catholic and apostolic Church, and we receive you into the fellowship of this Communion. God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless, preserve, and keep you. Amen.

The Bishop then concludes with this prayer
Almighty and everliving God, let your fatherly hand ever be over these your servants; let your Holy Spirit ever be with them; and so lead them in the knowledge and obedience of your Word, that they may serve you in this life, and dwell with you in the life to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Peace

Priest     The peace of the Lord be always with you.

Offertory Anthem: Go Forth and Preach the Gospel” James Chepponis

Go forth and preach the Gospel
to all who are in need.
As witness to the Savior,
go teach by word and deed.
The Spirit is upon us,
and sends us to declare
The Good News of the kingdom
to people everywhere.
Go forth and preach the Gospel
to all who live in fear,
And share the joyful message
that God is always near.
The Spirit is upon us,
and sends forth in peace
to bring the poor glad tidings
that justice may increase.
Go forth and preach the Gospel,
go spread the news abroad!
Proclaim to every nation
the greatness of our God.
The Spirit is upon us,
that all may understand
the promise of salvation
revealed to every land.

The Great Thanksgiving:
Eucharistic Prayer A

The Bishop, standing at the Lord’s Table as chief celebrant, proceeds with the Great Thanksgiving of the Eucharist.

Bishop     The Lord be with you.
People     And also with you.
Bishop    Lift up your hearts.
People     We lift them to the Lord.
Bishop    Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People     It is right to give him thanks and praise.

The Bishop  continues

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. But chiefly are we bound to praise you for the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is the true Paschal Lamb, who was sacrificed for us, and has taken away the sin of the world. By his death he has destroyed death, and by his rising to life again he has won for us everlasting life. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

Sanctus et Benedictus qui venit                                Missa Paschalis, W. Edward McCall

The Bishop  continues

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Bishop
  and People

Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.

The Bishop
  continues

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN.

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,

Our Father, who art in heaven,
    hallowed be thy Name,
    thy kingdom come,
    thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
    as we forgive those
        who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
    for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread

The Bishop  breaks the consecrated Bread. A period of silence is kept.

Bishop
              Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us;
People               Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia.

Spiritual Communion: Act of Reception

During Communion, you are invited to say the following prayer form for receiving Spiritual Communion. Know that the grace of God is made present in your heart, even though the Sacrament is not received with the mouth.

In union, blessed Jesus, with the faithful gathered at every altar of your Church where your blessed Body and Blood are offered this day, I long to offer you praise and thanksgiving, for creation and all the blessings of this life, for the redemption won for us by your life, death, and resurrection, for the means of grace and the hope of glory.

I believe that you are truly present in the Holy Sacrament, and, since I cannot at this time receive communion, I pray you to come into my heart. I unite myself with you and embrace you with all my heart, my soul, and my mind. Let nothing separate me from you; let me serve you in this life until, by your grace, I come to your glorious kingdom and unending peace. Amen.

Come Lord Jesus, and dwell in my heart in the fullness of your strength; be my wisdom and guide me in right pathways; conform my life and actions to the image of your holiness; and, in the power of your gracious might, rule over every hostile power that threatens or disturbs the growth of your kingdom, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Communion Anthem:
Rejoice, Rejoice, this Easter Morn” Michael Larkin

Rejoice, rejoice, this Easter morn,
all earth and heaven are singing,
“The grave is empty, Jesus lives,
for us new life is bringing.”
For death has died on Easter Day,
let all on earth and heaven say that,
“Jesus is risen, is risen from the dead
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.”
To the tomb came the women
early that day and found the
stone had been rolled away,
amazed were they when the angel said,
“Why seek the living among the dead?”
For death has died on Easter Day,
let all on earth and heaven say that,
“Jesus is risen, is risen from the dead.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.”
Death, O death, where is your sting?
All praise to our risen Lord and King,
who endured the cross for all
who believe to redeem and save!
Rejoice, rejoice, this Easter morn,
all earth and heaven are singing,
“The grave is empty, Jesus lives,
for us new life is bringing.”
For death has died on Easter Day,
let all on earth and heaven say that,
“Jesus is risen, is risen from the dead.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.”

Hymn 494: “Crown him with many crowns”

1. Crown him with many crowns
the Lamb upon his throne;
Hark! how the heavenly anthem
drowns all music but its own;
awake my soul, and sing
of him who died for thee,
and hail him as thy matchless King
through all eternity.

2. Crown him the Son of God
before the worlds began,
and ye, who tread where he hath trod,
crown him the Son of man;
who every grief hath known
that wrings the human breast,
and takes and bears them for his own,
that all in him may rest.

3. Crown him the Lord of life,
who triumphed o’er the grave,
and rose victorious in the strife
for those he came to save;
his glories now we sing who died,
and rose on high, who died,
eternal life to bring,
and lives that death may die.

4. Crown him of lords the Lord,
who over all doth reign,
who once on earth, the incarnate Word,
for ransomed sinners slain,
now, live in realms of light,
where saints with angels sing
their songs, before him day and night,
their God, Redeemer, King.

5. Crown him the Lord of heaven,
enthroned in worlds above,
crown him the King, to whom is given
the wondrous name of Love.
Crown him with many crowns
as thrones before him fall,
crown him, ye kings, with many crowns,
for he is King of all.

After Communion, the Bishop says

Let us pray.

Priest and People

Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Caring for Friends has resumed our meal packing at the church. Our next meeting will be Saturday, April 20 from 9:30-11:30am. We are asking for anyone who would like to cook at home to bring the food to church on the 20th to pack. Please include a list of ingredients for all meals. Casseroles with a protein source, meats like meatloaf, chicken, beef, turkey breasts with a side of rice or potatoes are some other ideas. Donations of canned goods are appreciated, especially fruits and vegetables. Hope you can make it. Please contact Myra Parker, Mary Smith, or George Wiemann with any questions.

Seeking Flower Guild Members:

Do you admire the lovely flower memorial arrangements each Sunday in church? The Flower Guild is responsible for these memorials and we are always open to having new members join our guild.

If you wondered what is involved in this ministry: no experience required, only a desire to create, training available upon request!

What is created:  One large arrangement for the church and one small arrangement for the Mary shrine.

When is completed: Saturday morning or if needed Friday, keep in mind the flowers need to look fresh for Sunday morning!

Schedule: Usually you would be scheduled appx. once every other month - so in total 6 to 8 times a year.

How this is accomplished: Purchase and/or gather the flowers, twigs, seed pods etc. that you wish to include in the arrangement and create the arrangement in the flower guild room, to the left of the altar. You are reimbursed for your purchase.

If you feel you are up for this wonderful ministry please contact Lisa Farina.

Available Flower Memorial/Thanksgiving Dates

Are you interested in having a flower memorial or thanksgiving? There are a few open dates that would be wonderful to have a memorial on or even share a date with someone!

If you are interested in making a donation for one of these dates the recommended cost is $80 or find a friend or two looking to have memorials too and share the date!

Open Dates: September 22 and November 17

Your memorial or thanksgiving may be for this year or continued annually. Please contact Lisa Farina  if you are interested in one of these dates.
