The Liturgy of the Word
First Lesson: Acts 2:1-21
When the day of Pentecost had come, the disciples were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.” All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” But others sneered and said, “They are filled with new wine.”
But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord’s great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”

Psalm 104:25-35, 37
25 O Lord, how manifold are your works! *
in wisdom you have made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
26 Yonder is the great and wide sea
with its living things too many to number, *
creatures both small and great.
27 There move the ships,
and there is that Leviathan, *
which you have made for the sport of it.
28 All of them look to you *
to give them their food in due season.
29 You give it to them; they gather it; *
you open your hand, and they are filled with good things.
30 You hide your face, and they are terrified; *
you take away their breath,
and they die and return to their dust.
31 You send forth your Spirit, and they are created; *
and so you renew the face of the earth.
32 May the glory of the Lord endure for ever; *
may the Lord rejoice in all his works.
33 He looks at the earth and it trembles; *
he touches the mountains and they smoke.
34 I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; *
I will praise my God while I have my being.
35 May these words of mine please him; *
I will rejoice in the Lord.
37 Bless the Lord, O my soul. *
Hallelujah!
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13
No one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

Hymn 511: “Holy Spirit, ever living”
1. Holy Spirit, ever living as the Church’s very life;
Holy Spirit, ever striving through her in a ceaseless strife;
Holy Spirit, ever forming in the Church the mind of Christ;
thee we praise with endless worship for thy fruits and gifts unpriced.
2. Holy Spirit, ever working through the Church’s ministry;
quickening, strengthening, and absolving, setting captive sinners free;
Holy Spirit, ever binding age to age, and soul to soul,
in a fellowship unending thee we worship and extol.
The Pentecost Sequence
Sung by the choir
Come, thou holy spirit come, And from thy celestial home Send thy light and brilliancy. Father of the poor, draw near; Giver of all gifts, be here; Come, the soul’s true radiancy. Come, of comforters the best, Of the soul the sweetest guest, Come in toil refreshingly: Thou in labour rest most sweet, Thou art shadow from the heat, Comfort in adversity. O thou Light, most pure and blest, Shine, within the inmost breast Of thy faithful company. Where thou art not, man hath nought; ‘Every holy deed and thought Comes from thy Divinity. What is soiled, make thou pure; What is wounded, work its cure; What is parched, fructify; What is riged, gently bend; What is frozen, warmly tend; Strengthen what goes erringly. Fill thy faithful, who confide In thy power to guard and guide, With thy sevenfold Mystery. Here thy grace and virtue send; Grant salvation in the end. And in heaven felicity. Amen, Alleluia.
Alleluia
The choir sings the Alleluias, then all repeat them.
The Gospel: John 7:37-39
Priest The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to John.
People Glory to you, Lord Christ.
On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’” Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Priest The Gospel of the Lord.
People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Priest Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give him thanks and praise.
The priest continues
We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life.
We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
At the following words, the priest touches the water
Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin and born again may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
The Baptism
The priest baptizes the candidate, saying
Rose, I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The forehead of the newly baptized is then marked with the sign of the cross using Chrism, saying
Rose, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ’s own for ever. Amen.
The priest presents a candle to the newly baptized, saying
Rose, receive the light of Christ, a sign of the new life enkindled within you. Amen.
The priest then prays over the newly baptized, saying Let us pray.
Heavenly Father, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon this your servant the forgiveness of sin, and have raised her to the new life of grace. Sustain her, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give her an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen.

Offertory Anthem: “Hail this Joyful Day’s Return” Craig Phillips
Hail this joyful day’s return,
Hail the Pentecostal morn,
morn when our ascended
Lord on his Church his Spirit poured!
Alleluia!
Like to cloven tongues of flame
on the twelve the Spirit came—
tongues, that earth may hear their call,
fire, that love may burn in all.
Lord, to you your people bend;
unto us your Spirit send;
blessings of this sacred day
grant us, dearest Lord, we pray.
You who did our forebears guide,
with their children still abide;
grant us pardon, grant us peace,
till our earthly wanderings cease.
Alleluia!
The Great Thanksgiving: Eucharistic Prayer A
On this day, The Great Thanksgiving is said in several languages. It is available in English here.
The Celebrant faces the People and sings
Then, facing the Holy Table, the Celebrant proceeds
Sanctus: “Holy, holy, holy Lord”
The Celebrant continues
Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:
Celebrant and People
Christ has died.
Christ is risen.
Christ will come again.
The Celebrant continues
All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN.
And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,
The Breaking of the Bread
The priest breaks the consecrated Bread. A period of silence is kept.
The Celebrant sings the Alleluias, then all repeat them.
Priest The Gifts of God for the People of God.
Spiritual Communion: Act of Reception
During Communion, you are invited to say the following prayer form for receiving Spiritual Communion. Know that the grace of God is made present in your heart, even though the Sacrament is not received with the mouth.
In union, blessed Jesus, with the faithful gathered at every altar of your Church where your blessed Body and Blood are offered this day, I long to offer you praise and thanksgiving, for creation and all the blessings of this life, for the redemption won for us by your life, death, and resurrection, for the means of grace and the hope of glory.
I believe that you are truly present in the Holy Sacrament, and, since I cannot at this time receive communion, I pray you to come into my heart. I unite myself with you and embrace you with all my heart, my soul, and my mind. Let nothing separate me from you; let me serve you in this life until, by your grace, I come to your glorious kingdom and unending peace. Amen.
Come Lord Jesus, and dwell in my heart in the fullness of your strength; be my wisdom and guide me in right pathways; conform my life and actions to the image of your holiness; and, in the power of your gracious might, rule over every hostile power that threatens or disturbs the growth of your kingdom, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
Communion Anthem: “Come, thou Holy Spirit, Come” Gerald Near
Come, thou Holy Spirit, come,
And from thy celestial home
Shed a ray of light divine!
Come, thou Father of the poor!
Come, thou source of all our store!
Come, within our bosoms shine.
Thou, of comforters the best;
Thou, the soul’s most welcome guest,
Sweet refreshment here below;
In our labor rest most sweet,
Grateful coolness in the heat;
Solace in the midst of woe.
O most blessed Light divine,
Shine within these hearts of thine,
And our inmost being fill!
For without thee we have naught,
Nothing good in deed or thought,
Nothing free from taint of ill.
Heal our wounds, our strength renew;
On our dryness pour thy dew;
Wash the stains of guilt away:
Bend the stubborn heart and will;
Melt the frozen, warm the chill;
Guide the steps that go astray.
On the faithful, who adore,
And confess thee, evermore,
In thy sevenfold gifts descend:
Give them virtue’s sure reward;
Give them thy salvation, Lord;
Give them joys that never end.
Hymn 516: “Come down, O Love divine”
1. Come down, O Love divine,
seek thou this soul of mine,
and visit it with thine own ardor glowing;
O Comforter, draw near,
within my heart appear,
and kindle it, thy holy flame bestowing.
2. O let it freely burn,
till earthly passions turn
to dust and ashes in its heat consuming;
and let thy glorious light
shine ever on my sight,
and clothe me round, the while my path illuming.
3. And so the yearning strong,
with which the soul will long,
shall far outpass the power of human telling;
for none can guess its grace,
till Love create a place
wherein the Holy Spirit makes a dwelling.
After Communion, the priest says
Let us pray.
Priest and People
Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

COMING SOON!
Would you like an opportunity to still see the timeline exhibition panels for our 175th? They’ll be coming to an inbox near you in the June issue of PASSAGES. A photo of each individual panel was taken at close enough range to enlarge the photo on your phone or computer screen and read the contents. You will be able to review each panel at your leisure and even save it on your device as an ongoing reference if you wish. And don’t forget, an even more extensive history is available in the book “A History of St Paul’s Church,” available in the church office. The price of the book is $30.

Thank you in advance for your continued support. Mary Lou Parry, Outreach Committee.
Drivers needed for the Community Meal
Please consider being a van driver or attendant for the monthly community meal. To qualify, an online course offered by Code Blue (CSSH) must be taken. If we have the needed van driver and attendant, we would be able to provide meals to people in Warminster that are unable to get to St. Paul’s because of the distance. If you are interested, please contact Mae O’Brien using the church directory and she can provide additional details. Thank you very much for your help and support.
Women’s Ministry Walk and Game Night: June 3
The Women’s Ministry will be having its next event June 3 from 5-8pm in the St Paul’s Parish Hall. We will meet up for an evening of fellowship that kicks off with a walk around town for those interested (weather permitting) and then a game night. Please plan to bring a “brown bag” dinner and your favorite game to share. Please contact Elizabeth Pitts or Leigh DeTato with any questions. Looking forward to seeing everyone!
Gift Card Collection
The Outreach Committee will be collecting supermarket gift cards for the families of Doyle and the Immigrant Rights Group for the next several weeks. Summer is a rough time for families with children home for the summer and not getting lunches at school so any help we can give will be greatly appreciated. It would be great if everyone could get $25 cards to local supermarkets like Acme, Weis, Giant and Aldi. Or you can contribute money and we will get the cards. We’d like the cards or money by June 4 so that they can be given out before school ends. Thanks for your continued support in this endeavor. Any questions please reach out to Mary Smith using the church directory.
