The Liturgy of the Word
First Lesson: Ecclesiastes 1:2, 12-14; 2:18-23
Vanity of vanities, says the Teacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.
I, the Teacher, when king over Israel in Jerusalem, applied my mind to seek and to search out by wisdom all that is done under heaven; it is an unhappy business that God has given to human beings to be busy with. I saw all the deeds that are done under the sun; and see, all is vanity and a chasing after wind.
I hated all my toil in which I had toiled under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to those who come after me—and who knows whether they will be wise or foolish? Yet they will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity. So I turned and gave my heart up to despair concerning all the toil of my labors under the sun, because sometimes one who has toiled with wisdom and knowledge and skill must leave all to be enjoyed by another who did not toil for it. This also is vanity and a great evil. What do mortals get from all the toil and strain with which they toil under the sun? For all their days are full of pain, and their work is a vexation; even at night their minds do not rest. This also is vanity.

Psalm 49:1-11

Second Lesson: Colossians 3:1-11
If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.
Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). On account of these the wrath of God is coming on those who are disobedient. These are the ways you also once followed, when you were living that life. But now you must get rid of all such things—anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive language from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have stripped off the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator. In that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all!

Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Friend, who set me to be a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” Then he told them a parable: “The land of a rich man produced abundantly. And he thought to himself, ‘What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?’ Then he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. The Sermon
The Nicene Creed Said in unison
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,

Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.
He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.
On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.
Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

Spiritual Communion: Act of Reception
During Communion, you are invited to say the following prayer form for receiving Spiritual Communion. Know that the grace of God is made present in your heart, even though the Sacrament is not received with the mouth.
In union, blessed Jesus, with the faithful gathered at every altar of your Church where your blessed Body and Blood are offered this day, I long to offer you praise and thanksgiving, for creation and all the blessings of this life, for the redemption won for us by your life, death, and resurrection, for the means of grace and the hope of glory.

Summer Office Hours
During the summer months, the church office hours will be reduced on Friday afternoons. From June 17 through August 26, the office will close at noon on Fridays. In September, the office will once again resume its normal schedule.
Outreach Committee Updates
The Outreach Committee has been very busy with our various activities which include preparing and packing 125 meals for Caring for Friends. In addition to the Committee people, and volunteers from the parish, we have been assisted for quite some time by residents of the Youth Center of Bucks County. This relationship has proved to be beneficial for us and for the Center.
Our ongoing involvement with Guatemala is continuing with the latest donation of almost $4000.00. This money will be used for educational purposes. Recently George Wiemann and Myra Parker attended a luncheon with the Bishop, and had the opportunity to discuss their needs directly. We are planning to continue to support with their educational needs. Thank you to everyone that helped to make this donation possible.
The Little Free Pantry has proven to be very successful and as a testament to that, we are in need of replacements like peanut butter, boxes of cereal, small water bottles, nuts, and snack bars without chocolate. Thank you for any donation you can make.
Thank you for all the donations to the Little Red House. The primary use of the donations is to outfit the Bucks County Housing apartments when there is a new resident.
St. Paul’s will be joining other local churches to provide a Community Meal for the homeless. We will provide a meal on the fourth Sunday of the month. Our first meal is scheduled for August 28th @1pm. In the beginning, the meals will be provided by Outreach with the hope of expanding the invitees after the first of the year to other local social agencies in the area. If you would like to help with the donations, gift cards to Wawa, McDonald’s, Wendy’s in the amount of $5.00 each would be greatly appreciated. If you do get gift cards, please just use the places mentioned and only in $5.00 increments...those are the rules from CSSH.
St. Paul’s has received an inquiry about helping a Ukrainian refugee and her teenage son find a place to live and a job when they arrive next month. If anyone has any insight into how the process works and can help, please contact me. Thank you very much.

We will be having a Welcome Back Picnic on Sunday, September 18 at Burpee Park (on the corner of Oakland Ave and Church St), beginning at 11am. This is a potluck-style picnic—with good food, and great company. As this is an event for the parish as a whole, please feel free to invite your friends as well as our neighbors nearby.
